Kimble County Library

Junction can boast of having one of the best public libraries found in any small town. The Kimble County Library is housed in a beautiful native stone building donated by Dr. Joseph Neight in 1973. Since that time, the O.C. Fisher Wing has been added. This large spacious room contains Congressman Fisher's papers, furniture from his office in Washington, D.C., paintings, and other memorabilia. O.C. Fisher, a native of Kimble County, served as Congressman from his district for 32 years. Among the items in Mr. Fisher's collection are all the copies of all the books that he has written.

The Kimble County Library is a member of the Big Country Library System. This membership gives immediate access to many materials not available in local libraries. Research materials are readily available through Big Country System, as are 16-mm films, bilingual materials, filmstrips, and fiction. Because of this membership, Kimble County Library is given yearly grants for the purchase of non-fiction materials.

Children's activities are an important part of the schedule at the library. Story hour is held weekly throughout the year with emphasis on puppet shows and on oral reading and telling of stories. Children are encouraged to participate in the Summer Reading Program, which begins in June and ends in August.

The library staff is welcoming and always happy to help. Kimble County Library is open five days a week and offers an abundance of material for research purposes, academic literature as well as plenty of shelves full of books for sheer enjoyment. The library subscribes to a large number of magazines and an extensive file of these magazines is kept. A daily newspaper and the local newspaper are on hand at all times. Kimble County Library offers something for everyone, regardless of the reader's interest and needs.
